The Manhasset Community Coalition Against Substance Abuse showed youngsters in Manhasset, New York, that they can rock drug free. Elementary school students received paper guitars to cut out and decorate. They were asked to think about the healthy things they do for themselves, others, and/or the world. Students expressed their thoughts by drawing, painting, assembling a collage, or writing poems—all on the guitars, which were later displayed. The coalition further carried out the rockin’ theme with “Our School Rocks Drug Free” Guitar-Shaped Bookmark & Sheet Music Sets and “A Drug Free Life Rocks” Ribbon Bracelets.
Leaders unite with the common goal of raising a generation of drug-free children who make healthy choices. The good news is that, thanks to creative approaches to anti-drug education, Red Ribbon Week has captured the attention of millions of young people.
