Saint Justin Martyr School in Anaheim, California, developed the theme “Let Your Light Shine: Live Alcohol, Tobacco, And Illegal Drug Free.” Working in groups, students created paper bag luminaries. Each group had to decide on a symbol that could be cut out of the bag to allow light to shine through. The youngsters decorated the bags with pictures of themselves doing activities in which they are a light for others. Students also made suns. Each sunray featured a healthy habit that helps them let their light shine brighter. If you choose to use this theme, consider giving out “Life Is Bright Drug Free” Red Glow Bracelets or “Reach For The Stars, Not Drugs” Star-Shaped Pencil Sharpeners.
Leaders unite with the common goal of raising a generation of drug-free children who make healthy choices. The good news is that, thanks to creative approaches to anti-drug education, Red Ribbon Week has captured the attention of millions of young people.
