Every day of the week, Samnorwood High School in Samnorwood, Texas, had a different theme, all tied together with the slogan “Ask Me, See Me, Be Me.” On Monday, titled “Ask Me What I’m Listening To,” students were allowed to bring MP3 players to school and listen during lunch. Tuesday was “See Me? I’m Camouflaged” and students came in their camo gear. Wednesday, students wore sports jerseys for “See Me, I Support My Team.” Thursday was the day for beach attire with “Be Me, I’m Cool, I’m Drug Free.” On Friday, titled “Be Me, I’m A Celebrity,” students dressed as their favorite celebrities for Halloween. If you replicate these activities, use related handouts each day, such as “I Tune Out Drugs” Ribbon-Shaped Stickers on Monday and “Shade Out Drugs” Sunglasses on Thursday.
Leaders unite with the common goal of raising a generation of drug-free children who make healthy choices. The good news is that, thanks to creative approaches to anti-drug education, Red Ribbon Week has captured the attention of millions of young people.
